COVID-19 has been an unprecedented crisis that has changed the way of life and TeamRUBIS Barbados wanted to make a difference and assist vulnerable families directly. The Spring Garden Rubigas team came up with an initiative for staff to raise funds to donate 50 Rubigas 25lbs LPG vouchers to those persons in society who have been affected by loss of income during the pandemic. Staff at all three Rubis offices donated money during the month of March and raised a total of $4300, equivalent to 105 LPG refills, far exceeding the original target. As a company, RUBIS was so proud of the employees fundraising efforts that they decided to match the amount raised. A total of 210 Rubigas LPG refill vouchers were donated to the Household Mitigation Unit and the Barbados Vulnerable Family Survival Programme who will distribute to families in need.
Andrea Gooding, RUBIS Marketing Manager explained that the donation, which took place at the RUBIS corporate office in Welches on April 1 2021, coincided with the company’s 10th Anniversary. She commented, “Our team spirit is second to none. TeamRUBIS we are known as, but we are truly a family. Over the years we have grown. We have launched our brands, new products, expanded, entered new markets and had a lot of fun along the way. 10 years is a proud moment for each and every one of us.” She continued, “Knowing that our donation can assist 210 families with their cooking gas needs for say one month is wonderful. It is our hope that we can do more together to help our fellow Barbadians.” In accepting the donation, Government’s Advisor on Poverty, Corey Lane expressed his appreciation stating, “RUBIS as a family has come and answered the call one more time that 210 families will have one less thing to worry about this Easter weekend.”
The company has made several donations in 2020 and 2021 to Ministries, charities and organisations to help fight the pandemic. In addition to donations throughout the Caribbean, RUBIS donated over $83,000 in several Covid-19 relief efforts in Barbados during 2020 including PPE donated to the Ministry of Health and the Prison Services, iPads and MiFi devices to the Ann Hill School, hand sanitisers for the Transport Board and many others.
