RUBIS Barbados welcomed a promising cohort of eleven summer interns to their Welches office on June 12th, 2023, beginning an exciting assignment to acquire new skills and real-world experience towards shaping future careers.
The interns hail from local and international universities and are pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in various fields.
HR Manager, Delores Batson said, “We are thrilled to welcome this cohort of interns to our company and look forward to witnessing their growth and contributions. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and fresh perspectives will invigorate our teams and inspire us all. Together, we will create an enriching and transformative summer internship program that will shape the careers of these talented individuals.”
During the 10-week internship, the young adults will have the opportunity to rotate across various departments, including Marketing, Finance, Shipping & Trading, Engineering, Law, and Information Technology. This rotational structure will expose them to many roles, fostering a well-rounded skill set and providing them with a holistic understanding of business operations.
The excitement began in week one with a detailed orientation and a comprehensive report on the various operational aspects of RUBIS Eastern Caribbean. Next came a tour of the Barbados National Terminal Company Ltd (BNTCL) with a thorough run-down of the terminal operations, including pumping fuel from ships to the fuel tanks via underground pipelines, and its storage, testing and preparation for sale. Interns also visited the RUBIS Spring Garden terminals, where they benefitted from a complete health and safety guide detailing potential dangers and the measures incorporated to ensure everyone’s safety. A tour of the Company’s facility at the Grantley Adams International Airport, and the opportunity to witness the gas bottle filling and restoration procedures completed an exciting week.
Skills acquisition is an essential pillar of the internship programme, and the eager interns took full advantage from the first week, all successfully passing a certificate course in CPR and First Aid training, making them certified CPR and First Aid practitioners.
Understanding the significance of acquiring practical knowledge and skills and recognizing that this experience will play a pivotal role in shaping their future careers, the interns are eager to dive into the diverse departments that make up the Company. As their journey unfolds, we will document their experiences and share their accomplishments. Stay tuned to our blog and social media platforms, where we will regularly update you on their achievements, insights, and impact on our organization.
