Nine champions were crowned as the curtains came down on the 2016 Rubis Independence Junior Tennis Tournament held at the Tanteen Tennis courts, St. George’s.
The event, in its 21st year, saw over 88 boys and girls compete in the singles divisions between the ages of 10 to 18 years over a two week period.
In acknowledging Rubis’ continued support over the past three years, Grenada Tennis Association (GTA) representative Mr. Bernard ”Bunny” Wilson explained that in addition to covering the tournament’s administrative costs, the energy company’s contribution provided trophies and t-shirts for all participants, as well as transportation for students from the outer parishes who were competing in the tournament.
Rubis Country Representative, Charles Archer, reconfirmed the company’s continued support for the development of junior tennis in Grenada. Mr. Archer noted that Rubis supported several other sporting disciplines throughout the region. He stated, “Rubis is a proud sponsor of road tennis, swimming, cricket and a winning rally team.” He also encouraged the players to always be disciplined, compete hard but also to always be fair.”
Trophies were presented to the divisional champions and finalists. Commendation was also extended to other players for their commitment and improvement.
