TeamRUBIS provided support to the St. Lucia Diabetes and Hypertension Association (SLDHA) as World Diabetes Day 2021 activities took place around the world late last month. The donation of $6,000 to the Association will be used to purchase 50 glucometers with replacement strips, 50 blood sugar control rings and 50 bottles of Benfotiamine which is used to help with diabetes-related nerve damage. The presentation took place at the Reduit RUBIS Service Station’s Health Day, where customers received free glucose and blood pressure checks.
Ms. Sophia Jules, Secretary of SLDHA, expressed gratitude to RUBIS for the donation and for partnering with the organization during the Covid -19 pandemic, stating, “Diabetes and hypertension, along with uncontrolled cholesterol levels are the main NCD’s contributing to ill health, hospitalisation, and death in St. Lucia.” She added, “It’s our responsibility as the leading organization for the awareness of diabetes and hypertension, to help those living with this condition and to stop the numbers of persons with the disease from spreading.”
Chriselda Norbal, Retail and C&I Accounts Executive, RUBIS added, “TeamRUBIS is very excited to be a part of this worthy cause, as persons living with the disease are at a higher risk of suffering serious complications from Covid-19. This donation will go a long way to provide medical supplies for the less fortunate persons that are unable to provide for themselves. We look forward to continuing this partnership with the SLDHA.”
