Several elderly residents from Hindsbury Road and nearby areas are now better prepared for this year’s hurricane season and the challenges of senior living, following an outreach by the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association (BAA) with support from Team RUBIS.
BAA volunteers visited residents on Saturday 21 June, 2025, providing them with vital information and delivering care packages funded by a donation from RUBIS. The successful outreach was conducted in collaboration with the National Assistance Board (NAB) and the Department of Emergency Management (DEM).
Mellissa Broomes, Brand Marketing Specialist with RUBIS, said it was an honour to provide much-needed assistance to elderly residents, stating, “RUBIS is honoured to support this impactful initiative spearheaded by the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association. This outreach effort, which focused on raising awareness about elder abuse and equipping our elderly with essential resources ahead of the hurricane season, strongly aligns with our commitment to supporting vulnerable communities. We believe educating families about elderly care is crucial to helping them better support their loved ones and access the resources they may need daily.”
The Barbados Alzheimer’s Association is a non-profit, charitable organisation dedicated to raising awareness, providing support, and improving the quality of life for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in Barbados.
