On the 21st of July 2023, The Saint James LG, our newest liquid petroleum gas (LPG) vessel, docked at the RUBIS Spring Garden Terminal, St. Michael, and our 2023 summer interns got the opportunity to tour it. This proved to be a thrilling adventure where our interns boarded the ship from the seashore via a smaller fisherman’s boat before climbing onboard via the ship’s ladder. They were briefed on the safety protocols, then introduced to Captain Petrache Cristian Ion and his crew members. Our interns experienced the day-to-day operations on the tanker. This included touring the engine room, tanker storage, and the gas compressor room as well as a chance to have lunch with the crew. During the tour the interns were able to witness the entire process of LPG being transported from the vessel docked at sea, through the pipelines and into the tanks at the RUBIS terminal.
The Saint James LG transports LPG to Barbados and other countries in the Eastern Caribbean, including Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana, Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Dominica, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. Besides Saint James LG, Rubis also owns the following vessels: Demerara, Bahama Blue, Kensington LG, and Morbihan Shipping.
Our interns were extremely grateful as this proved to be a great opportunity for them to gain newfound knowledge and a greater appreciation for the more technical and overlooked aspects of the company’s entire operations.
