Building Future Leaders: RUBIS Barbados Launches 2026 Summer Internship Programme

On June 15th, 2026, Rubis Barbados opened its doors to eight talented tertiary-level students for its annual Summer Internship Program, providing them with the opportunity to gain meaningful industry experience. These students, studying diverse disciplines at international and local universities, will be applying their studies within the work environment. The interns will be divided between the head office at One Rubis Plaza, Welches, Barbados and the Spring Garden Terminal for a period of eight weeks, developing their skills within the Marketing, Engineering, Accounting, Operations, Information Technology and Auditing departments.

During the first week, designed to introduce interns to the operations of the company, interns took a glimpse inside Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL) at Fairy Valley, Christ Church and the RUBIS LPG and fuel terminals at Spring Garden. Through these tours they experienced the intricate process of receiving petroleum products from large oil tankers and the loading of gas, diesel and kerosine oil to Rubis RTW trucks prior to delivery to fuel stations. The Spring Garden tour, guided by Shane Blackett took interns through the tank farm where they observed the restoration, filling and loading of LPG cylinders.

At the forefront of its daily operations, Rubis is committed to a culture of safety. Interns actively participated in physical lifesaving and theoretical procedures conducted by Good Samaritan Trainers. This resulted in a well-earned two-year certification in CPR Training and First Aid.

During the week interns were exposed to different departments during a small segment called “RUBiS Table Talk”. Employees shared their various roles in the organization, giving the interns a chance to interact and ask questions. To conclude a week of personal exploration and growth, interns further grew their new internal bonds by participating in Mini Golf. Participating in this activity helped interns develop problem solving skills, increase communication skills therefore breaking their shyness toward one another.

“Rubis has been incredibly hospitable. My first week was not only informative and educational, but it was fun, engaging and interactive. At every turn there was a sharp mind and warm smile with something positive to say. It was a great week.”

-Jelani Clarke – IT intern

“The interns adjusted well to their new environment, navigating the onboarding process and software introductions with ease. The energy this year is fantastic! Everyone has shown a genuine eagerness to dive into their roles, a curiosity about our daily operations and a passion for gaining hands-on knowledge.

We look forward to watching this cohort grow, learn, and thrive during their time with us. Welcome to the team!”
