RUBIS partners with the Villages at Coverley 5K Run, Walk & Wag for animal welfare

The streets of Coverley pulsed with the rhythmic pitter-patter of feet and paws last Saturday, April 25th, as fitness enthusiasts and their furry friends gathered for the annual Villages at Coverley 5K Run, Walk & Wag.

Team RUBIS once again showed its support for the worthy cause, donating $2,000 and providing participants with fun and practical RUBIS premiums, including cooling towels, bottles, and fans.

The event welcomed participants of all ages and abilities who either ran, walked or “wagged” their way to the finish line.

RUBIS Accounts Executive, Amina Green, said it was a pleasure to continue supporting Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary. Ocean Acres is the sole beneficiary of funds raised from the event, which continues to grow in popularity each year, drawing together residents from across Barbados in support of animal welfare.

“At RUBIS, we believe a healthy community is a thriving one. We are proud to partner with the Villages at Coverley for the 5K Run, Walk & Wag, an event that perfectly captures the spirit of community. More importantly, we are thrilled that this contribution supports the incredible work done by Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary. It is our pleasure to help bring residents and their pets together for such a meaningful cause,” Green said.

Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary is a registered, non-profit organisation in Barbados dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned, abused and neglected dogs and cats. Located in Newcastle, St. John, the sanctuary provides a haven for hundreds of animals while working to improve animal welfare across the island.

Since 2020, Ocean Acres has grown into a leading advocate for compassionate animal care, operating adoption programmes, spay-and-neuter initiatives, and community outreach efforts. The organisation also focuses on education, helping to promote responsible pet ownership. Driven by their commitment to tackle the root causes of pet overpopulation, they strive to build a society in Barbados where animals are respected, and neglect and cruelty are rejected.
