The Alpha Centre’s mission to see children with special needs positively contributing to society and thriving as productive citizens of Dominica is being supported by Team RUBIS.
The school recently accepted a donation of XCD $13,000 to support facility upgrades and enhance educational programs. This funding was allocated under RUBIS’ Corporate Social Responsibility roadmap, supporting communities with a focus on education and healthcare.
RUBIS Accounts Executive Vanalda Henry-Vidal congratulated the Alpha Centre on having recently celebrated 50 years of service as the only school on the island dedicated to educating children with special needs. She said the funding and other tangible assistance committed to under the partnership were well deserved.
“Your 50th anniversary is a remarkable milestone. The school supports children across Dominica, equipping them with essential life skills to help them navigate the world. Through programs in gardening, woodworking, and tailoring, students gain hands-on experience that fosters independence and confidence.”
Alpha Centre serves approximately 30 students of varying ages and challenges, offering them a safe and nurturing environment to learn and grow. Henry-Vidal noted that along with the financial support, Team RUBIS would assist at the school’s sports day and visit the school for reading/storytelling sessions.
“I am proud to be part of an organisation that values giving back to meaningful institutions like the Alpha Centre. This initiative is a testament to our social commitment to support youth and education in our community. I am optimistic that this contribution will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students and staff alike,” Henry-Vidal said.
Brother Raymond Philogene, Principal of the Alpha Centre, said: “On behalf of Alpha Centre’s staff, board, and students, I want to thank RUBIS for thinking of us, for your generous contribution, and for always keeping us in mind.”
The Alpha Centre in Dominica is a specialised institution providing education and support for children with special needs. It focuses on developing essential life skills, academic learning, and vocational training to empower students and enhance their independence.
