RUBIS Suriname Supports Online Education

RUBIS Suriname has donated 24 Samsung tablets to the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MINOWC), to assist students with online learning.

In making the presentation, Euan Irving, RUBIS Suriname Sales Manager explained that the company wanted to assist after learning about the educational backlog in the interior caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as schools remained closed and online learning is becoming the norm. He stated, “Education has been greatly affected by this situation. We have already made some donations to the Bureau of Public Health and the Academic Hospital Paramaribo. The MINOWC is the third part of the project.”

Director of General Education, Yuro Dipotaroeno, accepted the donation on behalf of the Ministry. He thanked RUBIS and promised that the tablets would be put to good use. This donation followed an appeal from his Ministry, which prompted a donation of tablets from First Lady Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry herself to assist with the implementation of information technology in education. Mr Dipotaroeno commented, “With this we can make educational reforms happen in a way”. He stated that he hoped that other private companies will follow the same example.

During 2020, TeamRUBIS assisted the Bureau of Public Health with donations of PPE for essential workers and donated medical equipment to AZP Hospital. The company also sponsored the Betheljada Foundation’s Christmas party.
