Primary School debaters congratulated by RUBIS

Grenadian primary schools that competed in the 2025 St. Patrick’s Youth Organisation’s (SPYO) Primary School Debate Competition have been congratulated by Team RUBIS, with special commendation going to St. Patrick’s RC School, which took top honours and the first prize of $6000, and to St. John’s Anglican School, which secured the RUBIS-sponsored second-place prize of $4000.

River Sallee Government School claimed the third-place prize of $3,000 in the competition, which was held under the theme “Empowering the Future: Youth Leadership as the Key to Nation Building”.  The competition brought together 19 primary schools from the parishes of St. Patrick, St. John, St. Andrew, and St. David. Students engaged in a series of intellectually stimulating rounds, progressing through preliminary, quarter, semi, and elimination rounds, culminating in the exciting Grand Final, at the GBSS Auditorium (Grenada Boys Secondary School).

In the finals, the topic “Be it resolved that Grenada should focus primarily on strengthening its partnerships with African countries for cultural exchange and sustainable development” produced a spirited and competitive display from the students who displayed passion, teamwork, and eloquence in their delivery.

In addition to sponsoring a prize, RUBIS also provided the competition with tablets, medals and backpacks containing stationery. RUBIS Accounts Executive Areen Lewis said it was an honour to support an event that offered such far-reaching development opportunities for young people.

“We are honoured to sponsor the 2nd place prize, and we congratulate St John’s Anglican School and all other participants. Platforms like this debate competition provide young people with the opportunity to think boldly, speak confidently, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. The impact of experiences like this extends far beyond today, and RUBIS remains committed to supporting initiatives that help shape capable, informed, and resilient future leaders,” Lewis said.

Karena Noel, Vice President of the St. Patrick’s Youth Organisation (SPYO), expressed sincere thanks to RUBIS for its support, noting that the contribution played a key role in making the event a successful one.

Throughout the competition, students debated forward-thinking topics related to sustainable development, youth governance, artificial intelligence, and the role of young leaders in nation-building.
